Yakiyama Feb 4th, 2024

We had a training hike to Yakiyama on Feb. 4th. It is a hard hike, but nothing to fear, take a break when you have to and keep going. Soon you can enjoy lunch at the top.

There are a lot of big rocks on the way up. This was the northern rim of a big volcano that erupted 14 million years ago.

Here is our group. A breif flat section in the trail near the top. A curious cypress tree with a bad sense of diretion.

Miki Pass – Hago Pass

Miki Pass – Hago Pass

We had a training walk at Miki Pass and Hago Pass. It is the route between Mikisato and Kata, in Owase. This is one of my favorite routes because of the views of the ocean, mossy stone paths and the abandoned terraced fields.

The story about the poor family whose father got sick during their travels is really sad, but it gives us an idea of what walking the Kodo two hundred years ago must have been like.
